May 2023: Our Masters student (and one of our very own previous undergraduate students), Adan Moallemi, has won the 2023 CIHR Canada Graduate Scholarship – Master’s (CGS-M) award. This is one of the highest honours awarded to Masters students in Canada. We are very proud of you, Adan. Congratulations!

April 2023: Our (first ever) undergraduate student, Alexander Golab, has been selected for the 2023 NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA), a prestigious national scholarship in Canada. Well done, Alex and congratulations!

September 2022: Dr. Shahriari has been selected as a 2022 Michael Smith Health Research BC  (MSHRBC) Scholar awarded to outstanding early career researchers building cutting-edge research and training programs in medicine. Congratulations, Dr. Shahriari!

June 2022: The lab has been awarded a seed grant from ICORD for proof-of-concept device development for bladder management.

March 2022: The lab has been awarded an NSERC Discovery grant to develop interventions for the neuromodulation of the spinal cord.

January 2022: Together with some of the “giants” of the field, we have been awarded 24 M dollars to develop a biomaterials-based therapy after spinal cord injury. Learn more about the work in this article and also in this video.

September 2021: Adan Moallemi and Nadine Truter, our summer undergraduate students, won the second place in the best poster presentation of the Faculty of Medicine Multidisciplinary Research Program in Medicine (MRPM) at the 2021 Student Research Conference. August 2021: Congratulations to our summer undergraduate student, Nadine Truter, for winning the best oral presentation award of the 2021 UBC Centre for Blood Research/School of Biomedical Engineering symposium! We are proud of you, Nadine!

April 2021: Our incoming PhD student, Shahriar Shalileh, has won the 2021 UBC four year fellowship – one of the highest UBC-granted honors awarded to incoming PhD students. Congratulations, Shahriar!
